Highways Agency

The Highways Agency is responsible for the operating, maintaining and improving of the strategic road network. The Highways Agency experience fly-tipping across its strategic road network and in a bid to address this have become involved in the National Fly-tipping Prevention Group and the Flycapture Pilots run by the Environment Agency.

The Highways Agency have rolled out Flycapture within Area 9 which includes areas of the West Midlands, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Staffordshire. The Managing Area Contractors are involved in the recording and reporting of fly-tipping on the strategic road network within Area 9 which has some of the busiest areas of trunk road including the Birmingham Box, M6, M5 and M42. It is hoped that through collaborative working with the Environment Agency the Highways Agency can begin to tackle fly-tipping on the network.
